Installed Android 2.2 “Froyo” in my HTC Hero

Posted on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 in android, Experiments, HTC

I am a HTC Hero user for the past few months. Only drawback with the mobile was that it had Android 1.5. I really wanted to upgrade to Android 2.2(Froyo), but HTC does not support this officially.

Wired article:

So i was looking at various resources to root my mobile and install custom ROM. I was a little skeptic about all those resources until i came across this excellent article from Wired. That article was well written and it gave me all the confidence to try it out.

Installed Froyo:

I followed the steps given in the article. The process was so easy that even i could do it. The actual process will take less than 30 minutes, but it took me about 1 hr to complete the process(had an issue with Terminal Emulator). So from yesterday evening my Hero has got a new faster life.

FroydVillain:

I installed FroydVillain custom ROM built by VillainROM team, but you can use any dependable custom ROM. There are lots of them available. A big thanks to VillainROM team for supporting Hero users.

I will soon post step by step instructions that i followed for installing Froyo. The instructions will be helpful for a beginner like me.
