We are living in a decade where UI and UX are gaining the much needed importance. A good UX can only contribute to the success of a product. So with that thought lets analyze the UI that I recently came across in Google Plus.
Do you see something wrong in this UI?
This is the notification panel of Google plus that can be accessed anywhere from a google product. This UI that you see in the image is the result of an action performed when the internet is down (oh ya its a power cut right here and hence my internet is down).
I see three issues (not necessarily for others) in this simple UI
1. That famous Google yellow notification box. The message in that box is so unfriendly. Does a normal user understand what the word ‘server’ means? I would rather use “There was an error in loading your notifications. Please try again.” or “Could not load your notifications. Please try again.”
I just wonder whether these kind of message actually affect the User Experience.
2. The yellow box actually overlaps with the text “Notifications” and “view all”. I am sure I can not design a UI of this sort and sell it to my clients. Is it the brand Google that is breaking all the rules?
3. What is the use of ‘View all’ button when there is nothing listed. It should have been hidden or removed.
I know that Google plus is in a beta, but I don’t think the brand like Google can do these simple UI mistakes.
I am neither an UI expert nor an UX expert. I am just trying to understand whether these kind of UI actually affects a product UX or not. Is it right to say that Google can afford to these kind of mistakes?
